About Orvanta Works

A small publishing project covering one narrow subject: how much of a web page was never meant for you to see, and what can be done about it.

Why this website exists

Web pages are easy to open and hard to see clearly. Alongside the article you came for, a page assembles advertising slots, analytics scripts, social widgets and requests to companies whose business is recognising your browser somewhere else tomorrow. The problem is not that any of this is secret. It is that nothing shows it to you.

We are a consumer information website. We do not build, host, licence, sell or support any browser extension ourselves, and we collect nothing about your browsing.

The product category we cover

Our coverage focuses on ad and tracker blocking browser extensions — tools that stop advertising and tracking requests before they load, report what they found, and let you make exceptions site by site. Ghostery is the product featured on our homepage.

This is a category where honest expectation-setting matters. Blocking works from lists and rules, and tracking techniques change faster than lists do. Most everyday advertising and analytics is stopped; some methods are built specifically to survive filtering, and occasionally a site you need will break. We say so consistently, because a reader who installs something on the strength of an overstated promise is a reader we have failed.

Our editorial approach

Claims we will not make

No invented statistics, no fabricated user counts, no rankings we cannot substantiate, and no countdown timers or manufactured scarcity. If a figure is not something we can point to, it does not appear on the page.

How we frame products

Featured products are described in terms of what they are designed to do, with the caveats attached. We use words like “may” and “varies” when those are the honest words, even where a stronger one would convert better.

Advertising, disclosed up front

Our homepage article is a paid advertorial and is labelled as one at the very top of the page, above the header, before any content. Nothing about that arrangement is buried in a footnote.

Corrections

If something we publish is inaccurate or has gone out of date, write to us and we will review it. Features and availability change often; we would rather fix a page than defend it.

Transparency about commercial relationships

Orvanta Works is a commercially supported website. The homepage article is sponsored content, and the links to the featured product are affiliate links. If a reader goes on to use or purchase something after following one of those links, this website may receive compensation from the advertiser or its affiliate network.

That compensation does not add anything to the price a reader pays, and it does not buy a guarantee of positive coverage — the caveats above sit on the same page as the promotion. Full details are set out in our Advertising Disclaimer.

Who we write for

Our audience is general-interest: people who read a lot of the open web, who are not security researchers or privacy professionals, and who want a straightforward explanation before installing anything. Content is written in US English and reflects US consumer-privacy expectations, including the rights described in our Privacy Policy.

We do not provide legal, financial, medical or professional advice of any kind, and nothing on this website should be treated as such.
